Savannah Smith - Team Captain
Savannah joined the team in 2015 as a freshman. She is now a senior in the International Baccalaureate program at Klein Oak and the team captain for the 2018-19 school year. Previously she was Business lead and Chairman’s lead. During competitions, Savannah is the field coach for the drive team. Savannah joined the team, because her dad is a mentor, but stayed because of her interest in STEM, and love of FIRST. She is also a member of Spanish National Honor Society, National Honor Society, Society of Women Engineers, Mu Alpha Theta, and an officer of the Klein Oak Student Council.
Samantha Taylor - Business Lead
Samantha joined VorTX her sophomore year and have been a dedicated member ever since. Samantha also play violin in the orchestra and enjoy baking for her team mates!
Alea Nablan - Chairman’s Lead
Alea is a junior this year. She joined VorTX during sophomore year at first only because her brother joined but then she gradually made more friends and started to really enjoy it. First year Alea started in the media team because she enjoyed taking pictures and eventually became interested in Chairman's with Samantha. After last year, she was able to become the team's Chairman's lead. Alea doesn't really do much in my free time except she used to play OSU a lot but then she deleted the game (sadly) so that she could focus more on her studies. :(( But anyways, Alea is also in orchestra and plays the violin.
Abhi Nunna - Sponsorship Lead
Abhi is a student at Klein Cain pursuing engineering. He joined the team because he had a strong interest in STEM and wanted to learn more about engineering.
Kimberly Wang - Public Relations Lead
Kim joined VorTX 3735 her sophomore year, 2017, starting as an innocent little rookie on the media team because of her passion for taking pictures and editing. Kim is currently a junior doing the International Baccalaureate program at Klein Oak HS and suffering through it. She is the Public Relations Lead for VorTX 3735, probably because of her famous line “thx fam jam”, but she handles all the social media and communication database for the team, in oppose to Zahid the “cameraman”. However, this team makes her happy with the bonds and friendship she has made the past year making it seem more like a family. In addition, of being in robotics Kim has a passion for dance and is mostly a contemporary dancer, if wondering. Also, she is in the orchestra for her school playing the violin, as well as in Mu Alpha Theta, Tri - M, Spanish National Honor Society, and Science Club.
Zahid Hossain - Media Lead
Zahid joined the team as a freshman in 2015 and is now a senior at Klein Collins. He was very interested in STEM and robotics, but he was afraid that he needed experience to join the team at first. The team welcomed him warmly, saying that no experience was needed to join. He started learning 3D CAD modeling, but he also started learning photography. Over time, he became a professional at manual control and RAW photo editing, and now he almost always has a camera by his side at competitions. Aside from robotics, Zahid plays the viola in the Klein Collins Chamber orchestra. After graduating from high school, he wants to pursue computer engineering in college.
Thy Nguyen - Competition Lead
Bio: Thy joined the team in 2015 in her freshman year. She is now a senior at Klein Oak and now the Competition Lead for 2018. She was the Mechanical Captain for the past two years and now as the Competition Lead she manages the programming team and preps the robot team for competitions. She joined the team because of her interest in her brother’s great experience in Klein Bots, her love for building and mechanical works from her machinist dad. She’s also a member in National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Society of Women Engineers, Girls Who Code, and the President for SkillsUSA.
Kameela Baagil - Scouting/Strategy
Kameela joined the team in 2017. She is now a Junior at Klein Oak and the Strategy/Scouting Captain for the team. Kameela joined the team because of her interest in STEM and stays because of her love of FIRST, although she plans on going into the medical field. She takes all AP classes, participates in Mu Alpha Theta at Klein Oak and other clubs. She competes as a part of the KO Texas French Symposium Team. She has been practicing martial arts for years and helps teach some classes throughout the week.
Zoe Maldonado - Safety Co-captain
Zoe joined the team because of her growing interest in STEM, and her desire to become an electrical engineer in 2017 as a junior, She is now a senior at Klein High School and is Co-Safety Captain for the team. Zoe has been in FFA (future farmers of america) for three years and use to raise goats and compete in ag-science fairs. She is part of National Honor Society, Technology Student Association and president of Farm Friends.
Tessa Urwin - Safety Co-captain
Tessa joined the team in 2016 as a sophomore (well kinda). She is now a senior at Klein High School and is one of the Safety Co-Captains for the team. Tessa joined the team because of her passion for STEM and her ambition of becoming an electrical engineer. Her enthusiasm for all things tech carries over into her service as president for her school’s chapter of Technology Student Association where she competes in STEM-centered events. She is also a member of Sign Language Club, National Honor Society, English National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and is vice president for her school’s Spanish National Honor Society.
Nathan Ion - Robot Lead
Nathan joined the team in 2015 as a freshman. He is now a senior at Klein High School serving as the Robot Captain for the 2018-19 school year. This will be the second year that Nathan will serve as the Robot Captain, managing the pit crew during the competition season. A Dean’s List Semi-finalist, he enjoys STEM and loves to be part of FIRST. In addition to robotics, Nathan is also a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, English National Honor Society, Vice-President of the French National Honor Society, and the Vice President of the Klein High School Technology Student Association chapter.
Brock Darling - Mechanical Lead
Despite staying busy with band and the IB Program, and robotics, Brock have been able to find his passion; a love for STEM. Robotics has taught him many skills, but more importantly has given him a group of friends that act as a small family.
Maria Zelaya - Electrical + Pneumatic Lead
Maria is a sophomore at Klein Oak and is the Electrical Lead. She joined the team in 2017 hoping to learn more to help her with her future career plan of being an electrical engineer.
Will Tomshe - CAD Lead
Will joined the team in 2017 and now is the CAD captain. The reason Will joined the team is because ever since he can remember he have been interested in engineering so this team seemed the best way to get involved and learn. Will goes to Klein Cain and is currently a junior. Will also plays the viola in the chamber orchestra for his school.
Alfredo Maldonado - Subsystem Lead
Alfredo joined the team in 2015 as a freshman. He is now a senior at Klein High and is a subsystem lead for the team. Alfredo joined the team because of his interest in mechanical systems and love for technology. He is an active member in the workshop, guiding small teams to build the many parts of the robot. Aside from VorTX, he is a member of National Honor Society, Science National honor Society, and the Sergeant at Arms for Technology Student Association.
Ben Garza - Subsystem Lead
Ben (AKA Gen) joined the team in 2016 as a sophomore to pursue his passion in engineering. Now a Senior, Gen has taken the leadership role as so he claims the "best" subsystem lead on the team. Super friendly and super helpful, Gen has a way to keep people interested at the task at hand. Gen is also Treasurer for Klein High School’s Technology Student Association and Cultural Diversity Club, a member of Klein’s DECA team, National Honor Society, and Science National Honor Society.
Numa Minero - Subsystem Lead
Bio: Numa joined robotics the summer of his sophomore year. He is a mechanical subsystem lead. He participates in KO swim and orchestra.
Thejas Davalath - Subsystem Lead
Thejas Joined The Team in 2016. He is now a junior in the International Baccalaureate program at Klein Oak and a subsystem lead for the 2018-19 School year. Originally a member for the team. During the competitions, Thejas was an active participant of the upkeep of the robot whenever problems arose. He joined the team because of his inept interest in robotics and deep interest in engineering. Thejas is also a member of the Math National Society, Zeta Omicron(Computer Science National Honors Society, and National Science Honor Society.
