VorTX 3735 was founded in 2011 by 10 passionate students from Klein Collins High School, who just wanted to build a robot originally calling their team Klein Bots. Later, the team grew and by 2013 our team encompassed members from all four high schools in the Klein ISD district at the time and by 2017, we have members from our district’s new high school, Klein Cain. After having impacted students from all the high schools, we wanted to move forward beyond our district and thus rebranded as VorTX. With the influx of members, it became difficult to find space to work in at first a garage, then Klein High, Klein Forest, but our longest stay was at Lone Star’s Engineering and Manufacturing Institute. No matter how many times we move, we still keep going and embody our mission to “aspire to inspire” the next generation and each year we grow stronger.
FIRST and Our Mission
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international organization that strives to inspire the next generation of leaders and innovators in science and technology through programs that help to build engineering skills for the future. VorTX 3735 is a part of the FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition), which is the high school division of FIRST. In FRC, high school students work with mentors to create a robot within the restrictions and compete globally with over 3,000 teams from around the world. The goal of FRC is not only to successfully build a functioning robot, but also to understand the concept of teamwork and to emulate what real-world engineering looks like. Other programs FIRST offers are FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge), FLL (FIRST Lego League) and FLL Jr. These programs are built on FIRST philosophies of Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition. These values provide a way for teams to compete in a more efficient and respectful way. Although we are all competing against each other, we always strive to help and cooperate with other teams as well to become stronger as a FIRST community making it a fun and rewarding experience to be on this team.
